According to Statistics Estonia, There Are More Than 10,000 Vacancies in Estonia

In September, Statistics Estonia published an article stating that in the second quarter there were more than 10,000 vacancies in Estonian enterprises, agencies and organizations. This is 30% more than in the same period last year.

The total number of vacancies and employment was 618,314. The largest number of vacancies was in wholesale and retail trade, education and manufacturing.

The largest number of vacancies was in Harju County (75%), including Tallinn (65%), followed by Ida-Viru (8.3%) and Tartu County (4.9%). The vacancy rate was highest in Ida-Viru and Järva counties and lowest in Põlva and Jõgeva counties.

What could be the reason for so many vacancies? "It is not possible to point out one specific reason and the reasons can be different. For example, there is a shortage of specialists and many new positions have been created where no people have been found yet. There also will be no change of jobs, as stability is currently preferred. Another reason may be that many people who have lost their jobs due to the corona virus do not rush back to work. They have an income in the form of unemployment insurance and since the salaries offered are not motivating enough, there is no rush to return to work.“ - Maria Rudkowski ANCOR Baltics Project Manager in Estonia
